Torch is a minor character in the Jem animated series. He is one of Eric Raymond's hired goons. He only appeared in the episode Old Meets New.

He was voiced by Wally Burr.

History[]

While discussing with The Misfits their next move about how to force Bobby Bailey and the other tenants to leave their building so they can demolish it and build a record factory in its place, Eric Raymond introduces his two new goons to them: Torch and Mickey, two threatening-looking and non-talkative muscleheads.

That night, both men secretly go to the building in question. While Mickey climbs a power pole to cut off the electrical wirings, Torch breaks into the edifice's basement and uses a heavy wrench to remove one of the water pipes, leaving the structure's water supply to spill out the entire night.

Both him and Mickey are seen once again the next day lazing out on Raymond's yacht, when The Holograms suddenly arrive on boat to tell Eric they found official documents that won't allow him to tear down the building. Once they're gone, Eric addresses both men and tells them not to worry, planning his next move. However, neither Torch nor Mickey are ever seen again after this.

Appearance and personality[]

A lowlife thug with the stereotypical aspect of a biker that might have had one too many beers. Torch has scruffy long hair combed in a mullet style that reaches his shoulders and fashions an unshaven beard of several days. He doesn't wear a shirt and instead wears a black leather vest over his bare torso, proudly showing his bloated belly, and giving this appearance that extra touch with a jazzy metal necklace that rests over his chest. And to complete the biker look, he wears blue jeans.

He is a bit shorter than Mickey, although he's nonetheless very muscular. He isn't very talkative either, and for some reason he always resorts to start growling whenever he's craving for some action. All these traits in conjunction give Torch an assured threatening look.

Trivia[]

  • Oddly, after having quite a big introduction by Eric Raymond, neither Torch nor Mickey ever reappeared in the series.
  • Both Torch and Mickey physically resemble and play a very similar role as Stoke and Fenton, respectively, from the episode Britrock, in that the former is a long-haired metalhead and the latter a tall blond musclebound who work for the episode's main antagonist, with their job mainly consisting on performing acts of sabotage.
