Sir Hugh Ridley is a minor character in the Jem animated series. He is the owner of the "Unicorn Club" in England and is also friend of the Earl of Wissex, Mason Hawthorne.
He was voiced by Dan Gilvezan.
History[]
Sir Hugh Ridley is first seen at the Rock Hard Café during a meeting with Jem and The Holograms, where they are arranging a benefit concert the band will play at his new locale, the "Unicorn Club", in London that weekend. A reporter for Beat Magazine, named Cindy Tucker, arrives to interview The Holograms and Jem introduces Sir Hugh to her. She quickly recognizes him and asks him if this will be another one of his big famine relief benefits, to which Sir Hugh replies that it isn't, but that he'll donate all the concert's proceeds to help a friend of his, the Earl of Wissex. However, as soon as he mentions this name, he apparently realizes he has talked too much; he excuses himself and leaves.
Once in London, Sir Hugh introduces another band to The Holograms that will also play at his club, the Blue Bloods, where his friend, Mason Hawthorne, is the guitarist and leader. Mason turns out to actually be the "Earl of Wissex" Sir Hugh was previously talking about, although he'll officially claim this title the next evening at eight o'clock, when he turns 21. His uncle, Lord Trevor, wants to stop this from happening, as then he'll inherit his mansion and all other possessions, so he hires a couple of thugs to assassinate him. The minions head to the "Unicorn Club" during the bands' rehearsal disguised as music technicians and plant a timed bomb inside the drum set. Thanks to an argument between Aja and Craig Phillips, almost everybody exits the locale when the bomb goes off and fortunately no one ends up seriously injured.
Mason, Sir Hugh and The Holograms then head to the mansion to put an end to everything once and for all. They arrive at the exact moment when the clock is striking eight o'clock, stopping the villains from tricking Pizzazz from buying the mansion. Mason thus claims his title of Earl of Wissex and the evildoers try to escape, although they're all subdued; Mason tackles one of Lord Trevor's minions while Sir Hugh tackles the other.
The villains are arrested by the police and Mason then explains that his uncle had been withholding the possession of the Estate, and because of his addiction to gambling, he had lost all the money and now owed a big sum to his creditors; so Sir Hugh offered to arrange the benefit concert to aid him with these debts he'll also inherit once he became Earl.
Since the "Unicorn Club" was completely destroyed by the explosion, it is convened to hold the concert at the mansion that same night. It turns out to be a big success; Mason is able to pay all the creditors and there's enough leftover money to rebuild Sir Hugh's club.
