Shana is a character in the 2015 musical, fantasy, adventure film, Jem and the Holograms. She is the drummer of The Holograms and is loosely based on the character of the same name from the original '80s animated series, Jem.
She is portrayed by actress Aurora Perrineau.
Appearance and personality[]
Shana is biracial, being a mixture of Caucasian and African-American. When she was little, she had very curly hair; however, as a teenager, she now fashions a beautiful straight and long hairstyle. She is also the tallest of her sisters, easily standing out whenever they are together.
Shana became the most silent and calculating of the girls,
always thinking "way outside the box" and usually coming out with better judgment than the rest of them. Additionally, she is also the most sensitive of them all and only the mere thought of being betrayed by someone she loves can be enough to break her heart. However, she is also a fast forgiver and will always be ready to give such people a second chance.
She is also a passionate "fashionista" (as Jerrica calls her) and can be usually seen in her room working on her sewing machine. This hobby has actually brought her a bit of trouble with her sisters, as she sometimes takes her clothes without permission and modifies them to her own liking. This trait usually makes her have the last word when it comes to the band's look, either if it is professionally or while rehearsing in the garage of their house.
Character biography[]
When she was just a little girl, Shana was adopted by Miss Bailey, along with another girl named Aja. Due to their father's premature death, Bailey's two nieces, Jerrica and Kimber, also came to live with them and together they formed one big loving family.
Shana learned to play the drums at a young age and when she reached her teens, she was already an avid drums player. When she moved to
Los Angeles after Jerrica managed to bring all of her sisters with her while pursuing a career in music, she became her drummer. However, the band disbanded when Jerrica accepted to sign a contract for a solo-career with Starlight Music. Fortunately, the band members mended their differences and reunited again shortly after. Shana was then formally presented as the main drummer for the band, which from that day onward was known as Jem and The Holograms.
