Reginald Carfax, real name Reginal Broadbent and also often referred to simply as Reggie, is a minor character in the Jem animated series. He is the illegitimate Lordship heir of Carfax County. He is one of the main antagonists in the episode Renaissance Woman.
History[]
Reginald Carfax is the Lordship heir of Carfax County. In just a couple of days, he will be officially entitled as Lord and reign over the land. While there's no doubt that he's easy on the eyes, he still acts very immature and spoiled for his age. He can usually be seen in company of his advisor, Duncan Broadbent, who always tells him how he must proceed.
A Renaissance fair is carried on as part of the celebrations of Reginald's entitlement, where Jem and The Holograms are invited to participate, accompanied by Danse to perform choreographics during their show. When Reginald sees her, he instantly falls in love with her and wants to meet her at any cost.
Nevertheless, some discontent toward Reginald's upcoming entitlement can be perceived from the townspeople due to the recent harsh collecting of taxes which have left them in a state impoverishment. A new heroic outlaw vigilante has risen to fight the unjust regime, Robin Goodfellow, who is on a quest to return to the people what's theirs and also uncover Reginald as an impostor and usurper to Carfax's Lordship.
Following Duncan's advise, an archery tournament is set to take place the next day in order to lure Robin out and apprehend him. Knowing that it is a trap, Robin nonetheless goes to participate and allows himself to get arrested; this with the intention to look for evidence of Reginald's illegitimacy inside the castle.
Reginald sends an invitation to Danse to have dinner with him at his castle, although she initially rejects the idea. Having witnessed how Robin and his men aren't just a bunch of thieves and instead are helping the people, The Holograms decide to help them too, and Jem convinces Dance to accept Reginald's invitation so she can also look for proof of his illegitimate background. On their part, the rest of The Holograms and Robin's sidekick, Jolly Jack, also infiltrate the castle on their own with the same objective.
At dinner with Danse, Reginald is interrupted by Duncan and a guard, who inform him that The Holograms have been fighting against his guards and taken the taxes money. Perceiving the impending danger after hearing this, Danse quietly slips away, just in time before Duncan tells Reginald that they also suspect that she could be involved.
The clock has already started ticking, marking the official entitlement of Reginald, while Jem is still inside the castle looking for evidence to prove his illegitimacy. Suddenly, she hears the sad pleas of a man from behind a wall. Noticing that the cement is still wet, she pulls out the bricks and finds an old man wearing an iron mask trapped inside.
Meanwhile, Robin is outside in the courtyard fighting the royal guards, while the rest of his friends are creating a distraction by launching fireworks filled with the collected taxes money. At this point, Jem comes out and presents the old man to the people gathered there as Lord Carfax, rightful owner of the Lordship. Carfax approaches Robin to thank him for his courage and also reveals that he is actually his father. Much to everybody's astonishment, he proceeds to tell his story: Nearly 20 years ago, Duncan imprisoned him in his own catacombs. He then cast Robin away as an orphan and in his place claimed his own son, Reginald, as heir to the Lordship.
Having learned the truth, the guards turn against Reginald and Duncan, followed by the claims of the townspeople to throw them into the dungeons. While it is not explicitly shown what was their fate, it can be assumed that both were indeed arrested.

Trivia[]
- Since Reginald wasn't a legitimate Carfax and instead was revealed to be the son of Duncan Broadbent, his real name then would be Reginald Broadbent. However, this was a fact that not even himself knew until that point.
- Even though Reginald can be a bit immature and spoiled, it's arguable if he really was ill-intentioned, as he simply was doing everything his advisor/father Duncan told him, thus making Duncan the real mastermind of everything wrong going on in Carfax.
- Robin and his men often refer to Reginald as "Reggie", likely in a mocking way.
