After he enlists The Misfits to take part, he announces to the public that they will be in competition with another band to sell 500,000 albums. The contest is to see which band can sell them the fastest, with the prize being a gold album award and the Glitter 'n Gold Roadster. After Jem promises the quick delivery of a new Jem and The Holograms record in time for the contest, he accepts them into the contest.
Both bands are constantly at neck-and-neck, with each group using different methods to get ahead. Eventually, when The Holograms and The Misfits are tied at 500,000 albums sold, Owen extends the contest by one point. A customer then purchases the final Jem record and they win the contest, earning the prizes.
