One Jem Too Many is the fourth episode of the second season, and the 30th episode overall, of the Jem animated series.
Synopsis[]
Jerrica, stressed-out from dealing with tax forms and the usual trouble at home and the office, gets into trouble with a nasty-tempered Jem impersonator, whose outrageous, public meltdowns and temper tantrums threaten to destroy the real Jem's career.
Plot[]
Jerrica appears to be frustrated after cleaning up for the Starlight Girls at Starlight Mansion, just as a baseball smashes through the window, caused by Terri's bat. Marianne and Terri argue over who's to blame, with the fight getting physical and Jerrica having to intervene and get them to apologize. The Holograms notice that Jerrica seems run down and suggest a shopping trip to relieve some stress. However, she refuses, insisting she has to do their taxes. With The Holograms at the Fashion Plaza Mall, Jerrica spends most of the morning pouring over numbers, singing about her desires for a stress-free life in the ballad, "Imagine Me".
Rio bursts into Jerrica's studio as he heard Jem singing, to which Jerrica quickly makes up a lie and turns down his offer for lunch due to having piles of tax forms to complete. However, Jem meets Rio at his car out of the blue, and they head to the Red Rock Restaurant for lunch together which Jem only agrees due to its status as a hot-spot for celebrities. Rio immediately notices Jem's unusual demeanor, as she is incredibly demanding and rude to both customers and staff alike in the restaurant, even going as far to call them insulting nicknames. When a couple refuse to move from their table, Jem grabs the nearest dish and pours it over the gentleman's head. The situation escalates as a paparazzi snaps a picture of Jem losing her cool, leading her to grab the photographer's camera and toss it out the window. The front of the house staff promptly calls security to throw her out of the restaurant, and Jem threatens to sue them. Rio confronts Jem for her bratty behavior, but to his horror, she describes him as her "flunky", and he decides to finally take off. A fan asks Jem for some autographs, to which she initially agrees, but soon throws a fit once she realizes her records are being sold at a discounted rate. The Holograms hear the commotion and are baffled by Jem's attitude.
Rio visits Jerrica back at Starlight Music, informing her of Jem's tantrum at the mall. The Holograms arrive shortly after, and question why Jerrica (Jem) behaved the way she did. Jerrica, confused, questions how any of this had taken place, as she had been filing taxes since they left. Kimber takes a moment to check on her sister, suggesting that she take a rest - which only makes Jerrica feel as though they don't trust her. Aja convinces Jerrica to attend the music distributor show the following day as a day off.
At the show, Jem has already arrived, wreaking havoc left right and center. The Holograms follow her only to find Jerrica, who claims to have been chasing Jem, (which is clearly impossible to The Holograms), and they believe she has been switching back and forth. Jerrica then wildly accosts a cleaner in the hallway, claiming that Jem would have run past her - which the cleaner denies. Back at home, Kimber turns the TV on, with the main news story depicting Jem's recent public disgrace. The interviewee discusses Cool Trash's issue titled 'Jem Goes Berzerk' - which has already sold a million copies. It then transitions into the live premiere of Flint Westwood's new film 'My Fist in Your Face'. Hector Ramirez, interviewing at the premiere, announces the arrival of Flint Westwood himself, a few other A-listers, and Jem. The Holograms are shocked, finally realizing that there is an impostor pretending to be Jem - who incidentally has just dumped a bucket of popcorn over Flint's head on national television.
At Misfits Music, The Misfits are celebrating the downfall of Jem after recent stories. A cleaner arrives (the same that Jerrica had accosted earlier), and removes her mask to reveal Jem underneath and The Misfits tell her to get lost. Pizzazz tells them to relax as another mask is removed, revealing Clash to be the person posing as Jem. Eric is impressed by Pizzazz's idea, and they celebrate with the song "Congratulations".
Kimber thinks Jerrica should call the police, but Jerrica has other ideas. By staging a gala concert, Jerrica plans to lure the impostor out into the open and expose her publicly. After it being announced in the tabloids, Pizzazz and Clash fall for the bait, but Pizzazz is suspicious it's a trap. While watching Jem and The Holograms rehearse, Rio spots the fake Jem running around backstage and he quickly lets the crew know. The two Jem's come face-to-face, and Clash steals the Rockin' Roadster to get away. Unfortunately, this is a rouse to distract Jem and The Holograms, Rio , and Danse, and as they rush onto a fake ferry, Techrat stands from afar, remotely controlling the boat alongside Eric. Through a TV broadcast, Eric tells his plans of his fake Jem taking over the charts as they disappear. They decide to make a raft from the materials they have on board and paddle back to shore.
Meanwhile, the fake Jem and The Misfits have started on their take-over, going as far to call the press to ensure they'll be at the concert when the impostor ruins her career. Eric fires the roadies and costume department and Clash, dressed as Jem, goes out on stage to trash-talk the audience. Luckily, the real Jem shows up with The Holograms right on time and they fall into a debate about who is real. Jem asks Clash to prove herself by singing; which is out of tune, and the audience go crazy. Clash takes off the mask and the paparazzi capture the moment, with The Misfits attempting to escape. Jem and The Holograms sing "The Real Me" in success of exposing Clash.

- Kimber: You look beat, Jerrica. Why don't you come with us? We're going shopping.
- Aja: A new outfit will make you feel a 100% better!
- Jerrica: Percent. Oh, good thing you mentioned numbers, Aja. I forgot. Starlight Music's quarterly tax returns are due tomorrow.
- Fake Jem (to Rio): So. Where are you taking me? Not some cheap place, I hope.
- Rio: I thought we would go to the Red Rock Restaurant. Is that ok?
- Fake Jem: Perfect. Everybody who is anybody eats here.
- Fake Jem (to the Maitre' D while at the restaurant): Hey, baldy. We want the best table you've got. Now.
- Fake Jem: Those people will move. (walks up to a customer) You, fatso. Hit the road, Jack. I want to eat.
- Fake Jem (to the manager): You're selling my records at a discount.
- Manager: But Starlight Records gave permission... (avoiding records being thrown around by Jem) to lower the prices so more fans could afford them.
- Fake Jem: Let the mindless little twerps pay double.
- Rio (knocks at Jerrica's door): Hi. Can I come in? Ever think you know someone, but then they turn out to be completely the opposite of what you thought.
- Jerrica: What do you mean?
- Rio: Jem acted like a complete child and threw a temper tantrum when I took her to the Red Rock Restaurant.
- Jerrica: (baffled and in disbelief) Jem. But that's impossible.
- Rio: Yeah, I would have thought so too.
- Kimber (to Jerrica): Okay. What was the big scene in the record store all about?
- Raya: It seemed so unlike you.
- Shana: You can say that again. I was embarrassed to be a member of the band.
- Aja: We all were.
- Jerrica: What are you talking about? First, Rio says he had lunch with Jem and I know he couldn't have. And now you say I was at the record store, but I've been here all afternoon.
- Fake Jem (while at a vendor's booth): You think this garbage is going to sell. Here's what I think of your... (knocks over table) merchandise.
- (The Holograms follow Jem, but catch up to Jerrica)
- Jerrica: Hurry. She went this way. (taking off)
- Shana: She keeps switching back and forth.
- Raya: Catch her before she reveals she's Jem. (following Jerrica around the hall corner)
- Jerrica: She's trapped. This is a dead end. (seeing only a cleaning lady) This is impossible. I know she came down here. There's no way out.
- Jerrica: I am not cracking up. I know what I saw. I saw Jem at the show.
- Aja: Jerrica, if Jem wasn't you, who was she?
- Announcer: Let's go live to Hector Ramirez at the world premiere of Flint Westwood's new film, "My Fist in Your Face".
- Hector Ramirez: Flint Westwood himself is here. Along with Sigourney Loomis, martial arts star Bruth Lee and look who's just arrived: Jem.
- Fake Jem: Out of my way!
- Hector Ramirez: Jem. What's gotten into you?
- Fake Jem: Pipe down, Ramirez. I'm the star they want to see.
- Flint Westwood: But.. but it's my movie.
- Fake Jem: Okay. Here's some popcorn (dumping a bucket of popcorn on his head) to go along with it.
- Hector Ramirez: Folks, you saw it here first. Jem. Live and out of control.
- (When the cleaning lady comes in)
- Eric: (irritated) Lady, look, do your cleaning up some other time, huh? We're busy here. Now clear out.
- (The cleaning lady takes off her glasses and scarf, revealing herself as Jem)
- Eric: Jem, what are you doing here?
- Roxy: Spying on us.
- Jetta: Get lost, creep.

- Roxy, Jetta, Stormer, & Eric: Clash!
- Eric (on closed-circuit television): Welcome aboard to the S.S. Up the Creek, Jem. I hope you enjoy your pre-programmed cruise on the high seas. And while you're gone. My Jem will take over your concert and give your career a one way ticket to the bottom of the charts.
- Jem (after a motorist pulls his car over): Hi. Can we catch a ride?
- Little Girl: Daddy. It's Jem and the Holograms. Let's give them a ride.
- Dad: No. I've heard too many stories. I don't want my daughter associating with people like you.
- Little Girl: I don't think Jem did those things. It's just not like her.
- Jem: Thanks. You don't know how much that means to me.
- Jem (while confronting the fake Jem): Hold it right there. I don't know who you are or what kind of scam you are trying to pull, but it's ending right now.
- Fake Jem: What do you mean, scam? You're the one trying to run a scam. I'm the real Jem.
- Jem: All right. If you're the real Jem. Then prove it. Sing something.
