History[]
Nick Mann is a famous Hollywood actor who is well known for hitting on all his costar leads; that is, as long as he knows this will bring him some publicity. He is set as costar of Jem for the filming of The Holograms-themed movie, Starbright.
As soon as Jem is introduced to Nick, he puts his arm around her and takes her apart with the excuse of rehearsing their lines in private. He also attempts to act an ongoing affair between them for the media, and even kisses her in front of the cameras, with the excuse that this will bring hype for the movie. This overconfident behavior from Nick over Jem even brings Rio to the point of punching him in the face.
While Jem doesn't show herself to be too impressed by Nick, and in fact sometimes she actually seems to be a bit embarrassed for his behavior, Kimber, on the other hand, is completely infatuated by him. Regardless of this, every time she attempts to approach him, Nick finds a random excuse to get away from her. Conversely, Jeff Wright, Mann's stunt double, is completely bewildered by Kimber.
Nevertheless, Nick's self-centered and sometimes even rude behavior soon brings out the worst of him. When a fan asks him to give her his autograph, he simply dismisses her, saying that he's too busy. But the drop that spills the glass is when Kimber gets trapped among a series of explosions during the filming of one of her scenes; she desperately pleads Nick to help her, but the actor, fearing for his own life, cowardly leaves her to her luck and doesn't do anything. On the other hand, as soon as Jeff notices what's going on, he jumps on his motorcycle and rescues her. Pathetically trying to save some of his pride, Nick attempts to take some credit by complimenting Jeff for this heroic act, but everyone finally realize he's just a gutless jerk with a pretty face, to the point where Aja stuffs his helmet into his hands and tells him: "Stick your fat head into that, hero", out of disgust.
Mann is one of the only original crew members who stay in the production after The Holograms and most of the crew quit or were fired. The filming is repurposed to feature The Misfits in the starring role instead and is renamed The Misfits Hit It Big, where Mann is now costar of Pizzazz. Nevertheless, after experiencing on his own the constant abuse from the new administration, he also quits, alleging that his contract was only for acting with Jem.
Nick heads to the Starlight Mansion to reunite with the rest of the original crew. Arrogant and pedantic as always, he interrupts a romantic scene between Jem and Rio, and tells her that with his name on the credits, the new movie is assured to be a success - and on a rare case of humility, he even offers to work for only half of his usual fee. However, Jem tells him that if he really wants to work with them, he's welcome... as long as he works for free like everybody else, and that he only plays a bit role. Terrified by these new conditions, he leaves the place to everybody's joy.
Appearance and personality[]
Being a famous Hollywood star, it shouldn't come to a surprise that Nick is very handsome, almost to the point of perfection. He has almost perfect facial features, light blue eyes, fashions perfectly combed blond hair and a perfectly tanned skin. In addition, he's always seen wearing designer clothes, or if filming, costly costumes. Not enough with this, he is tall, well built, and has a self-confident personality.
On the other hand, this self-confidence turns into mere arrogance and egocentricity at some point. Apparently, he thinks he is superior to everybody else. He is famous for being a ladies man and for falling for all of his female leads in the movies he stars in. However, he apparently only does this if he knows it will bring him more publicity. In regard to Jem, specifically, he apparently was ready to start flirting with her even before he met her, as this would surely bring him a lot of notoriety.
