Maria Castello is a minor character in the Jem animated series. She is the owner of the prestigious Castello Gallery and she also owns a nightclub in New York City. She uses this "high society woman" guise to hide the fact that she is in reality a jewel smuggler.
History[]
Maria owns and runs the Castello Gallery, a small but prestigious locale where only the most renowned artists can exhibit their latest artworks. Additionally, she also owns one of the hottest nightclubs in the city.
Arrogant, with a severe glance and a solemn attitude, she exudes an air of elegance and sophistication wherever she goes. Looks can be deceiving, though, and what at first sight would appear to be a woman of the highest society, is in reality a masquerade to hide her true profession: a jewel smuggler who uses her position to get her hands on the most valuable pieces that come to her possession.
In the episode Culture Clash, she tries to convince Fitzgerald Beck into building several of his sculptures, assuring him that nobody cares about his performances anymore and that it's his sculptures what people are currently interested in. However, her real intentions are to use these sculptures to smuggle the stolen "Rockwell" jewels inside.
She doesn't see with good eyes the sudden presence of Jem and The Holograms, which have come to shoot their new music video aided by Beck, as that would only postpone the completion of the sculptures and time is something Maria can't afford to lose.
She can usually be seen with her partner in crime, Alex Falk.
