Lord Carfax is a minor character in the Jem animated series. He is the rightful Lord of Carfax County, who was unjustly deposed and imprisoned for 20 years.
He was voiced by Jack Angel.
History[]
While desperately looking for evidence inside Carfax Castle to prove that Reginald isn't the true Lordship heir of Carfax County before the clock strikes twelve, Jem hears the sad pleas of a man coming from behind a wall. She notices that the cement on the wall is still wet and that it must have been recently erected, so she pulls its bricks out and discovers an old man inside, shackled and wearing an iron mask.
Meanwhile, Robin Goodfellow is fighting the royal guards outside on the castle's courtyard, trying to stop Reginald from being entitled as Lord. Things aren't looking in his favor, but then Jem appears and presents the old man she found to the people gathered there, removing his iron mask and presenting him as Lord Carfax, the rightful ruler of Carfax County.
Lord Carfax then thanks Robin for his courage and reveals to actually be his father. Much to the whole town's astonishment after this unexpected reveal, the old man proceeds to tell his story: Nearly 20 years ago, he was imprisoned in his own catacombs by Duncan Broadbent. Duncan then took Robin and cast him out as an orphan, while he claimed his own son, Reginald, to be heir to the Lordship. While not shown onscreen, it is assumed that Duncan and Reginald were thrown into the dungeons following the claims of the public.
In the next scene, Robin and the girls are seen celebrating a dance ball inside the castle. While Lord Carfax isn't seen again, it is assumed that he was reinstated with all his nobility rights.

Trivia[]
- Both the prolonged imprisonment and the iron mask Lord Carfax is seen wearing when he is found are allusions to the tale of the "Man in the Iron Mask", a prisoner who remained unidentified due to the veil worn over his face (later misreported by Voltaire as an iron mask) throughout his time in prison, which lasted for a period of 34 years until his death.
