The Limp Lizards are an all-girl music band that appears in the Jem animated series. While they don't have any dialogue during the course of the series, they make a few cameos in a few episodes, generally taking part in montages showcasing other bands.

Lineup[]

The Limp Lizards are comprised of four members, each with their own distinctive hair color. None of their names are ever mentioned throughout the series. Their stage outfits are always reptilian-scaled print, and their logo consists of a lizard crawling among the band's name, imagery which can also be seen reproduced on the band's bass drum.

Members:

  • The blonde with long, straight hair is the main vocalist and also plays the guitar. She appears to be the leader of the band.
  • The brunette also plays the guitar. She may be the lead guitarist of the group.
  • The girl with spiky, pitch-black hair also plays the guitar (may be a bass guitar by the way it's held).
  • The redhead plays the drums.

History[]

The Limp Lizard's first appearance takes place in the episode The Beginning, where they can be seen performing their one-hit-wonder "Broken Glass" in a small music contest in a park arranged by Eric Raymond.

Their next relevant appearance takes place in the episode The Bands Break Up, where they can be found performing at The Scene night club. After their act, the owner of the club notices Kimber and Stormer among the audience and asks them to perform together. While Kimber and Stormer pick up their instruments, synthesizer and keytar, respectively, the Limp Lizards provide the rest of the music and backup vocals while the duo performs the song "I'm Okay".

In the same episode, when The Holograms sing "Gettin' Down To Business" to promote Kimber & Stormer's new album, the Lizards' self-titled album can be seen during the montage.

They also make minor appearances in the episodes In Stitches, A Change of Heart and Riot's Hope.

The Limp Lizards also make an appearance in the IDW comic adaptation of Jem and The Holograms. While in the cartoon they were often considered untalented and mostly used as gag background characters, in the comic, they are talented enough to beat out many other bands and place third in The Misfits' competition.

Trivia[]

  • The singing voice heard on "Broken Glass" in the episode The Beginning is actually Ford Kinder, the writer and director of several songs in the series.
  • The Limp Lizards were also nominated as the American representatives of a fashion contest in the episode In Stitches.
  • Their image is more of an alternative 1980s band than glam pop/rock, like The Holograms or The Misfits.
  • Apparently, the Limp Lizards are on good terms with The Holograms, and presumably other artists as well. In the episode The Bands Break Up, they play their instruments for Kimber & Stormer twice, without being asked for it. In Riot's Hope, they can be seen happily departing with some of The Holograms at a party thrown by The Stingers.
  • The Limp Lizard's second known song, "Cold Slither", is also the name of an episode and a fictional heavy metal band from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon, also produced by Marvel/Sunbow.
